CLINTON IA (July 25, 2019) - A four-run Kane County Cougars rally proved too much to overcome for the Clinton LumberKings who fell 4-2 on Thursday night at NelsonCorp Field. The loss dropped the LumberKings (21-11, 54-47) into second place with Kane County (22-10, 57-44) moving into first in the Western Division.
The game was locked into a scoreless tie through the first three innings before the Cougars broke out for a four-run top of the fourth inning. Alberto Guerrero began the inning by retiring the first batter he faced but then allowed the next four batters to reach. Tim Susnara chased home the first run of the frame and was followed by a three-run double by Geraldo Perdomo that put the Cougars on top for good.
The rally was enough to hang Guerrero (4-5) with the loss. He worked 3.2 innings allowing four runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out one.
Cougars starter Adrian Del Moral needed little support over his five innings of work. He surrendered just one hit, allowing no runs, while walking two and striking out two. Del Moral (2-2) earned the win for his time out.
In the bottom of the sixth, Clinton tallied their only runs of the night. Christopher Torres singled with one out - extending his hitting streak to 12 games - and was then followed by a Connor Scott RBI double to left - extending his hitting streak to 14 games. Peyton Burdick then capped the rally with an RBI single that pulled Clinton to within two runs.
Following the two-run sixth, Clinton did not collect a hit and mustered just one base runner over the final three innings at bat.
