Frisco suffers tough, late loss to Wichita in series opener

FRISCO, Texas (August 18, 2026) - At the beginning of the second series in their two-week homestand, the Frisco RoughRiders were dealt a tough blow in a late 10-9 loss to the Wichita Wind Surge Tuesday night at Riders Field.
Wichita (21-25, 46-67) scored in the first inning on a Garrett Spain RBI single off D.J. McCarty, but Frisco (24-22, 63-51) instantly jumped in front with a three-run home run off the bat of Rafe Perich in the bottom half.
After the Wind Surge tied the game 3-3 in the second, the RoughRiders scored five times in the next two innings to take an 8-3 lead, highlighted by a Corey Joyce solo home run. After a Max Wagner home run in the bottom of the eighth off Paulshawn Pasqualotto (2-1), Frisco led 9-4.
In the ninth inning, however, the Wind Surge roared back in an improbable comeback against Austin Roberts (3-3), with a two-run home run for Caden Kendle and a go-ahead grand slam by Jay Thomason to take a 10-9 lead. Kyle Bischoff locked down the Wind Surge win with his fifth save of the season.
Notes to Know:
Dylan Dreiling extended his hitting streak to 12 games with singles in the first and ninth innings.
Perich set his Double-A career high with four hits in the game, including his first-inning home run, two doubles and a single.
McCarty fired five innings in his second consecutive start on the homestand and struck out five while only surrendering three earned runs.
Frisco has not announced a starter for Wednesday night’s game at Riders Field, but will face RHP Riley Quick (0-2, 5.68) seeking a bounceback performance to tie the series at a game apiece.
