PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 31st through August 6th.

Hartford Yard Goats third baseman Josh Fuentes has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 31st-August 6th. The 24-year old batted .481 (13-for-27) with four doubles, six RBIs, five runs scored, two stolen bases, and a .630 slugging percentage in six games for the Yard Goats last week. It is the second time Josh has won the award this season, as he was also named the Player of the Week for the period of July 17th-July 23rd. Fuentes, who is a native of Rancho Santo Margarita, California, had at least one hit in all six games he played in last week and collected multiple hits in five of those games, including a pair of three-hit games on August 2nd at Akron and August 4th at Erie. The 6'2", 215 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in hits (13) last week and also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in total bases (17-2nd), doubles (4-tied 2nd), extra-base hits (4-tied 2nd), stolen bases (2-tied 2nd), batting average (.481-4th), RBIs (6-tied 5th), runs scored (5-tied 8th), and on-base percentage (.481-10th). Josh, who is hitting .279 with 12 homers and 61 RBIs in 106 games for Hartford this season, was signed by the Colorado Rockies as a non-drafted free agent on June 11, 2014 after batting .365 during his junior season at Missouri Baptist University.

Corey Oswalt, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 31st-August 6th. The 6'5", 250 lb. hurler started one game for the Rumble Ponies last week and had a record of 1-0 with six strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Oswalt, who is a native of San Diego, California, made his lone start of the week on Thursday in the opening game of a doubleheader against the visiting Trenton Thunder and threw a complete game in Binghamton's 2-0 victory. After allowing back-to-back singles to start the game, Oswalt went on to retire 20 straight batters while closing out the game with six perfect innings. He struck out six batters and did not allow a walk while tossing his first career complete game. The 23-year was the only Eastern League pitcher to throw a shutout last week and he also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in ERA (0.00-tied 1st), complete games (1-tied 1st), WHIP (0.29-2nd), wins (1-tied 2nd), and batting average against (.091-4th). Corey, who has a record of 8-4 with a league-best 2.43 ERA in 19 starts for the Rumble Ponies this season, was selected by the New York Mets in the seventh round of the 2012 draft out of James Madison High School in San Diego, California.
