'Gades lose second straight due to big Wilmington hitting

Wappingers Falls, N.Y. – The Hudson Valley Renegades lost a second-straight game to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, falling 5-2 on Friday night at Heritage Financial Park.

Hudson Valley led 1-0 through four innings. However, two home runs from Wilmington’s Jacob Walsh gave the Blue Rocks the edge.

Renegades bats did not get on base after the sixth inning.

Wilmington pitching walked just four batters after walking 12 and seven in the last two games. The Blue Rocks have walked 25 batters this week.

Four of Wilmington’s six hits were extra base hits (2B, 3B, 2 HR).

Wilmington stole eight bases on Friday night. The Blue Rocks have stolen 18 bases this week against the Renegades.

Hudson Valley pitching struck out 10 Blue Rocks. The Renegades have struck out 45 batters through three games and lead the South Atlantic League with 1126.

The Renegades stole two bases and have 224 total steals this year, the second-highest total in team history. They are averaging 2.0 steals per game this season.

The club record is 230 steals set in 2022.

The Renegades have stolen 45 bases in their last nine games and have been caught only twice, a success rate of 95.7%. Hudson Valley is averaging 4.7 steals per game since 8/4.

Renegades pitching walked four Blue Rocks. Hudson Valley has walked a total of nine batters through three games.

The Renegades fall to 23-23 in the second half of the season and are 3.0 games back of the second half playoff spot.

The Renegades move to 9-13 overall against Wilmington, 6-10 against them at home, and 8-8 in the second half.

RHP Luis Gil (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) made his second appearance of the week on a Minor League rehab assignment.

Gil did not allow a hit after allowing two in his first start.

Gil’s pitch count increased from 13 in his first rehab start to 30 in his second.

LHP Pico Kohn (2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) made his Heritage Financial Park debut on Friday night.

Kohn left in the bottom of the fifth inning with Eli Willits on third base. Willits then scored as Kohn’s only run allowed, ripping a triple off Jose M. Rodriguez.

Kohn has not allowed more than one run to score in all three of his starts this season.

After not striking anyone out in his first appearance back from the IL on 8/7 at Greenville, Kohn struck out four batters on Friday night.

3B Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek (1-for-4, 2 K, SB) has gotten on base in all 10 games played with the Renegades.

C Eric Genther (1-for-4, HR, R, RBI, K) grabbed his 12^th homer of the year.

Genther is one of five Renegades to have 12+ home runs this year.

The other four are Kyle West (19), Josh Moylan (13), Core Jackson (12), and Roderick Arias (12).

SS Jackson Lovich (1-for-3, BB, K, SB) has gotten hits in 12 of his first 14 High-A games.

3B Hans Montero (1-for-4, 2 K) has hits in each of his first three High-A games.

DH Dean Toigo (1-for-4, RBI, 2 K) extended his on-base streak to six games.

Toigo is slashing .292/.346/.417 with 2B, 3B, 3 R, 5 RBI, 2 BB, 8 K.

LF Robbie Burnett (0-for-3, BB, 2 K) extended his on-base streak to 10 games.

Burnett is slashing .212/.381/.364 across it with 2 2B, HR, 2 R, 5 RBI, 9 BB, 15 K, and 3-for-3 SB over the streak.

1B Kyle West (0-for-3, BB, 2 K) has drawn four walks in his last four games.

RHP Jack Sokol (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K) has not allowed an earned run to score in three of his last four outings.
