Cozens breaks record in come-from-behind victory

Trailing 5-0 Wednesday, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs launched five home runs to rally for an 8-6 victory over the Syracuse Chiefs. Dylan Cozens set a Pigs franchise record with three home runs in the game. Pedro Beato (6) closed out the ballgame and tied Luis García for the IronPigs' all-time saves lead (39). 

Cozens sparked the Pigs' rally in the bottom of the second. Leading off, he lined an opposite field home run to put Lehigh Valley on the board. One pitch later, Joey Meneses belted his first career Triple-A home run into the Pig Pen and the deficit was down to three.
The Pigs completed the comeback in the bottom of the third inning. After an RBI double by Mitch Walding, Cozens belted his second home run in as many at bats to tie the game at five.
Ranfi Casimiro (3-0) surrendered a run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Chiefs up 6-5.
In eleven seasons, no IronPig had ever left the yard three times in a single game. With two outs in the eighth and facing John Simms, who had retired all eight hitters he had faced, Cozens blasted a towering solo home run to right-center field to tie the game at six and set the franchise record.
Joey Meneses followed with a two-out single off Simms before Andrew Pullin put the Pigs on top for the first time with a two-run blast to right field for his second hit of the game.
The Pigs matched a franchise high with five home runs in the game and finished with 8 of their 11 hits going for extra bases.

Cole Irvin allowed five runs in the first two frames but was dominant in his final five innings. Irvin did not earn a decision, but went a Pigs' season-high seven innings and allowed just three Chiefs to reach base in the final five innings.
Beato retired the side in order in the ninth and is now a perfect 6-for-6 in save opportunities this season. Beato, who set the Pigs' single-season saves record with 33 in 2017 is now one away from becoming the career leader.
The Pigs hit the road for four games beginning tomorrow night in Rochester against the Red Wings. They return home to Coca-Cola Park for seven games beginning on Monday, May 7 against Pawtucket.
