Pigs drop third straight to visiting Mets

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (16-9) lost their third straight game to the Syracuse Mets (17-9) on Wednesday evening as they lost 8-2.

Syracuse jumped out to a 2-0 lead off Tyler Viza (0-1) with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning. Carlos Gómez hit a sacrifice fly while Travis Taijeron added an RBI single. The Mets scored another run off Viza in the top of the third inning when Danny Espinosa hit an RBI single. Matt McBride hit an RBI double off Corey Oswalt (3-0) in the bottom of the second inning to cut the Mets lead to 3-1. 
The Mets got runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings off Viza and Austin Davis, then scored three more runs in the top of the eighth inning off Tom Windle. Lehigh Valley did get a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. McBride scored on an RBI groundout by Ali Castillo. 
Lehigh Valley did load the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Lane Adams struck out swinging to end the game. It was the third time the Pigs stranded runners on all three bags in the contest. Paul Sewald closed out the game for Syracuse. 
The IronPigs and Syracuse Mets wrap up their series on Thursday morning at 10:35 a.m.
