Irvin, Robinson lead Pigs to series win over RailRiders

Robinson homered twice while Irvin allowed just one run in seven innings

Follow @IronPigsCole Irvin (3-0) kept the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (46-34) at bay, while Shane Robinson homered twice to lead the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (37-41) to a 12-3 win on Saturday night. The Pigs now lead the IronRail series 7-4.


Cole Irvin (3-0) kept the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (46-34) at bay, while Shane Robinson homered twice to lead the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (37-41) to a 12-3 win on Saturday night. The Pigs now lead the IronRail series 7-4.

The IronPigs scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning against Randall Delgado (1-3). Phil Gosselin reached first base on a fielding error by Breyvic Valeria then scored on a two-run home run hit by Robinson. The home run for Robinson was his fifth of the season.
Rob Brantly homered off Delgado in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the IronPigs lead to 3-0. The home run for Brantly was his third of the season. Mike Ford hit an RBI double off Irvin in the top of the fifth inning to trim the Pigs lead to 3-1.  
Lehigh Valley scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 7-1 lead. Nick Williams hit a two-run double off Delgado to chase him out of the game. Brantly hit an RBI double off Domingo Acevedo to score Williams and Lane Adams hit an RBI single to score Brantly. 
The Pigs scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Robinson hit a two-run home run off Acevedo to advance the score to 9-1. The home run for Robinson was his sixth of the season. Irvin allowed just one run off six hits with six strikeouts in seven innings.  
Three more runs came across home plate for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 12-1. Connor Brogdon made his triple-A debut and allowed two runs off four hits, allowing Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make the score 12-3.  
John Curtiss pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to finish out the game.  
The IronPigs play for a sweep on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
