Pigs drop July 4 contest in Syracuse

A five-run bottom of the fifth inning lifted the Syracuse Chiefs over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 9-2 Wednesday at NBT Bank Stadium. Tuffy Gosewisch did much of the damage with a grand slam.

The IronPigs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first against starter Brady Dragmire (1-3). Mitch Walding tripled to put the Pigs up 1-0 and Joey Meneses capped off the scoring with an RBI ground out.
The Chiefs took the lead against Jacob Waguespack (0-5) with their big fifth inning and added four more runs in their final two at-bats. Irving Falu stole home in the seventh before Yadiel Hernandez's two run single. A sacrifice fly in the eighth rounded out the scoring for the Chiefs.
Waguespack was lifted after 4 1/3 innings allowing just four hits but five runs. Waguespack struck out three and walked two. Hoby Milner added 1 2/3 of relief, allowed three hits and struck out two.
The Pigs and Chiefs wrap up their home-and-home four-game set tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Enyel De Los Santos goes for his ninth win of the season against Jefry Rodriguez for the Chiefs.
The Pigs return to Coca-Cola Park on Friday for a weekend for a series against the Rochester Red Wings. Post-game fireworks will follow both Friday and Saturday's contests.
