Pigs power past Mets in Syracuse

Lehigh Valley hit three home runs en route to victory

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (63-70) defeated the Syracuse Mets 5-3 on Tuesday night. The IronPigs homered three times - all against Mets starting pitcher Drew Gagnon (6-5).

The Mets took a 2-0 lead against Damon Jones in the bottom of the first inning. Dilson Herrera hit an RBI double while Danny Espinosa scored on a RBI groundout by Sam Haggerty.
Jose Pirela tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the second inning when he hit a two-run home run off Gagnon. The IronPigs added three more runs in the top of the third inning to extend their lead to 5-2. Nick Williams hit a two-run home run that was followed by a Deivy Grullon solo home run.
Rymer Liriano homered off Jones in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut Lehigh Valley's lead to 5-3.
Nick Pivetta earned the win for the IronPigs by pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Jones. Connor Brogdon earned his first AAA save by closing out the bottom of the ninth inning.
The IronPigs and Mets play at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday evening at NBT Stadium.
