TODAY'S GAME: Iowa and Colorado Springs are set to face off in game three of the six-game set today at Principal Park. With a game one win in the twin bill last night, Iowa snapped a streak of six straight losses to the Sky Sox. That streak matches the longest losing stretch for the I-Cubs within the matchup in franchise history (August 17, 1999 - April 23, 2000). At a 3-8 mark vs. the Sky Sox this season, Iowa is in danger of its worst season against Colorado Springs in the PCL era. In 2004, Iowa went 6-10 in the duel.
CAN'T STOP, WON'T STOP: Taylor Davis went a combined 2-for-7 in last night's doubleheader with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. In his last 26 games, Davis has been unstoppable - batting .368 (39-for-106) with 14 runs, 14 doubles, two homers and 24 RBI. His 14 doubles in that span pace the PCL, his .368 average rank third and his 24 RBI rank seventh.
NOTHING LASTS FOREVER: Before an errant throw in the final frame last night, Iowa had gone seven games in a row without committing an error, a season high. The seven straight errorless games were the most for the I-Cubs since June 27 - July 3 last season, when they went eight straight games without making a defensive blunder. The throwing error by Jack Leathersich to kick off the seventh inning led to three unearned runs, and the loss for Iowa.
SPLIT CITY: Iowa and Colorado Springs split last night's doubleheader, with Iowa winning the first game 2-0 and Colorado Springs coming from behind to grab the game two win 6-4. It was the first time since July 20, 2016 that Iowa had split a doubleheader at home. In that doubleheader, Iowa dropped the opening game 5-0 to Salt Lake, before topping the Bees 6-3 in the nightcap. Iowa is 2-6 (.250) on the season in doubleheaders, the fourth-worst mark in the league. The I-Cubs' six doubleheader losses are tied with El Paso for most in the PCL.
MAKING HISTORY:  With a stolen base in game two last night, John Andreoli recorded his 23rd steal of the season, and the 99th of his Iowa career. Andreoli now sits behind only Chico Walker (146) for the all-time franchise record. Through seven minor league seasons, including 2017, Andreoli has stolen a whopping 225 bases, while only being caught 54 times. After spending some time on the disabled list earlier this season, Andreoli is on pace to set a season-low in stolen bases since he stole just six across three levels in 2011, his first professional season. He has 20-plus steals in six straight seasons and has swiped more than 30 in four of these years.
AGAINST COLORADO SPRINGS: Iowa and Colorado Springs are scheduled to play six games over four days in what will be their final meeting of the season. The I-Cubs and Sky Sox have been unlucky with weather this year, with a total of five postponements and a cancellation. Games scheduled for April 29-30 at Principal Park were postponed due to inclement weather, and the clubs' first three games out of the All-Star break in Colorado Springs from July 13-15 were either postponed or cancelled due to rain. When the teams have played, the Sky Sox have dominated the I-Cubs, winning seven of 11 and their last six games.
SHUTOUTS FOR THE WIN:  In the first game of last night's doubleheader, Iowa shutout Colorado Springs 2-0. It was Iowa's first shutout win since July 17, a 26-game stretch. It was the second longest streak between shutouts for Iowa this season, behind only the 46 games from April 7 through May 23. Iowa is 6-5 in shutouts this season with its .545 winning percentage in these games ranking sixth in the league.
CALL TO THE 'PEN:  With last night's performance, Iowa's bullpen marked its third straight game without allowing an earned run. It is the longest stretch by the bullpen since they went a season-high seven games without allowing an earned run from June 26 to July 2. In this three game stretch, the bullpen has thrown 9.2 innings, allowing just three hits, six walks, three unearned runs, all while whiffing 10 batters.
STREAK SNAPPED: With three unearned runs in the seventh inning of game two's loss last night, Jack Leathersich allowed a run for the first time in a since July 16. In that contest, he gave up an earned run in game two of a doubleheader at Colorado Springs, a game in which he also took the loss. Through his scoreless stretch, Leathersich threw 12.2 innings, allowing just three hits and three walks, while striking out 17 batters. The three runs he allowed last night came from his own throwing error to begin the inning. With the loss, Leathersich fell to 1-4 on the year, despite an impressive 3.23 ERA.
SHORT HOPS: Iowa improved to 2-6 in doubleheader games after yesterday's split with Colorado Springs…Taylor Davis is sixth in the Cubs' farm system with 54 RBI on the season, and just one behind teammate Mark Zagunis and just five behind former teammate Victor Caratini.
