Dalis, Vidourek Lead Grizzlies Third Straight Rout of Ontario

ONTARIO, Calif. – Wilder Dalis homered twice and Landyn Vidourek reached base five times as the Fresno Grizzlies drew a season-high 17 walks and pulled away from the Ontario Tower Buzzers for a 15-4 win Saturday night at ONT Field.

It was Fresno's third straight blowout win in Ontario, following a pair of series-opening losses, with the Grizzlies outscoring the Tower Buzzers 44-8 over those three games.

The win keeps Fresno alone into first place in the California League North, and the Grizzlies now own the best overall record in the California League.

Roynier Hernandez gave the Grizzlies an early lead with a solo homer in the first, but Ontario answered in the second when Oswaldo Osorio launched a two-run shot off Sandy Ozuna to put the Tower Buzzers ahead 2-1.

Fresno tied it back up in the third on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Dalis, part of a stretch in which the Grizzlies lineup simply refused to chase — Fresno drew multiple walks in five different innings on the night.

Ontario regained the lead in the fourth against Austin Newton, who had just relieved Ozuna, when Conner O'Neal doubled, Osorio singled him to third and Javier Herrera's single brought him home to make it 3-2.

Fresno answered again in the fifth, tying it at 3-3 on Cristian Arguelles' RBI single that scored Vidourek, who had walked and stolen second.

The Grizzlies threatened to take the lead in the sixth when Derek Bernard led off with a bunt single and Sebastian Blanco walked, but a Jesus Freitez line drive turned into an inning-ending double play, and the game stayed tied 3-3 into the seventh.

That's when Vidourek and the Grizzlies took over. Vidourek walked to open the seventh, and after Ashly Andujar walked and Hernandez dropped a bunt single to load the bases, Arguelles lifted a sacrifice fly to right that scored Vidourek and put Fresno back in front, 4-3.

Two batters later, Dalis turned on a Jecsua Liborius pitch and drove it out to right field for a three-run homer, scoring Andujar and Hernandez and blowing the game open at 7-3.

Dalis wasn't done. He capped his night with a second home run, a solo shot in the ninth, giving him two homers, five RBIs and three runs scored on a 3-for-4 night — another notch in his incredible last two months.

Vidourek's night was just as remarkable in a different way. The right fielder walked four times, singled once, drove in two runs, scored three times and stole a base, doing damage almost entirely without putting the ball in play.

Fresno's eighth inning put the game away for good. Andujar doubled and Arguelles reached on a throwing error before Dalis walked to load the bases again, and Bernard cleared them with a three-run triple to center.

Blanco's sacrifice fly, an RBI single by Vidourek and a run that scored on a wild pitch extended the inning further, and by the time it ended the Grizzlies led 13-3.

Osorio answered with his second home run of the game, a solo shot in the ninth, to account for Ontario's final run, but it was well too late to matter.

Fresno's pitching staff of Ozuna, Newton and Olivares combined to hold Ontario to four runs on 10 hits and 10 strikeouts across nine innings.

Ozuna started and worked three innings, allowing Osorio's two-run homer among his two hits allowed. Newton relieved him and picked up the win with three innings of one-run ball, and Manuel Olivares closed out the final three innings for his fourth save of the season, allowing just one run despite surrendering Osorio's second homer.

Fresno finished with 11 hits and those 17 walks — a new season high for the club — while scoring 14 runs via RBI and stranding 13 runners of its own.

Andujar reached base four times, Bernard added a three-run triple to go with two hits, and Arguelles chipped in two RBIs.

The Grizzlies improved to 57-44 on the season, 21-14 in the second half, sitting alone atop the California League North.

The series concludes on Sunday night at 5:05pm when Left-hander Luichi Casilla will make his Single-A debut with the Grizzlies against Ontario’s 6-5 righty Jack O’Connor.
