BOX SCORE

FRESNO, Calif. – Back-to-back four-run innings from the Stockton Ports buried the Fresno Grizzlies on Tuesday night, as the Grizzlies fell 8-2 at Chukchansi Park to open the series.

Both starting pitchers tossed zeroes through the first two innings with Bryson Van Sickle dodging traffic against the Ports and Alex Barr quieting the Grizzlies on just sixteen pitches.

The game stayed scoreless through two before Stockton broke it open in the third.

Michael Brooks led off with a solo homer and Drew Burress followed with one of his own, and after Gavin Turley added a sacrifice fly, and a unearned run on an obstruction call helped produce another, putting the Ports up 4-0.

Stockton delivered the knockout blow in the fourth.

Van Sickle was pulled after allowing two singles, and reliever Luke Hansel hit a batter to load the bases before Turley crushed a grand slam to left-center, plating all four baserunners and pushing the lead to 8-0 before Fresno had a chance to answer.

The Grizzlies finally got on the board in the sixth breaking through against a parade of Stockton relievers.

Landyn Vidourek led off with a ground-rule double and came around to score on a Daniel Jackson walk and a wild pitch, cutting the deficit to 8-1.

Fresno added one more in the ninth. Cristian Arguelles doubled and advanced to third on a balk, and Jackson's groundout brought him home to make it 8-2, but that's all.

Van Sickle took the loss, charged with six runs — five earned — over 3.1 innings, done in by the two solo homers and the traffic he left behind for Hansel.

Hansel settled in after the slam, holding Stockton scoreless the rest of the way over 5.2 innings of relief.

Fresno's offense managed just five hits on the night, with Vidourek and Arguelles each doubling and Jackson driving in the club's only two runs

The loss drops the Grizzlies three games out of first in the California League North as they look to bounce back Wednesday against the Ports at Chukchansi Park with Sandy Ozuna on the mound.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:50pm.
