8th Inning Keys Second Consecutive Grizzlies Comeback Win

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Down to their final six outs and trailing by four runs, the Fresno Grizzlies stormed back with a stunning four-run eighth-inning rally and won it in extra innings, escaping with a 5-4 win over the Inland Empire 66ers in 10 innings Saturday night at San Manuel Stadium.

Despite a gritty start from Brady Parker, Inland Empire built its lead steadily.

Estevan Moreno's RBI single in the second and an inside-the-park home run from Brayden Corn in the fourth staked the 66ers to a 3-0 cushion, and two Grizzlies errors in the seventh let another run cross the plate to make it 4-0, putting the Grizzlies squarely on the ropes.

Fresno answered with its hallmark clutch rally in the eighth.

Sebastian Blanco was hit by a pitch and advanced on a wild pitch, and Cort MacDonald and Wilder Dalis both walked to load the bases.

Cristian Arguelles singled home Blanco to get the Grizzlies on the board, and Daniel Jackson followed by ripping a two-run double down the left field line that scored MacDonald and Dalis, tying the game at 4-4.

Ronny Ugarte's groundout then plated Arguelles with the tying run before Inland Empire's bullpen escaped further damage, but the four-run frame had already flipped the game.

Fresno's bullpen made the tie stand up from there, with Manuel Olivares tossing three scoreless innings to keep the game level into extras.

The Grizzlies broke the tie in the top of the 10th.

With Dalis starting the inning at second base, he stole third on the return throw to the pitcher setting up the go-ahead run on a Jackson sacrifice fly to center, giving Fresno a 5-4 lead.

Inland Empire threatened immediately in the bottom half, putting the automatic runner at third with one out, but Carlos Renzullo, who came into the game as a pinch hitter, made the defensive play of the night at third base, fielding Moreno's grounder and firing home to catcher Jackson to cut down the tying run before Olivares struck out the final batter to end it.

Jackson was the offensive star of the night for Fresno, finishing with three RBIs on a two-run double and the game-winning sacrifice fly, while Dalis reached base three times, stole two bases and scored the tying and go-ahead runs.

MacDonald added two hits and a walk, and Arguelles drove in the tying run during the eighth-inning rally.

Parker gave the Grizzlies a quality start, working six innings and striking out seven despite the inside-the-park homer.

The 66ers scratched one unearned run against Ben Davis before Olivares came on for the end of the game.

Olivares shut the door with three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, picking up the win.

Fresno grabs the season series from the 66ers, securing a .500 or better record against all four South Division opponents this season.

The win also secures at least a series split for Fresno with the finale on Sunday night, Fresno’s final regular season road game.
