FRESNO, Calif. – Ashly Andujar went 4-for-5 and Juan Martinez's bases-clearing triple keyed five runs of support for Brady Parker as the Fresno Grizzlies beat the Visalia Rawhide 5-1 Wednesday night at Chukchansi Park.
Parker was outstanding on the mound for Fresno, working six innings and allowing just one run on four hits while striking out five to pick up his seventh win of the season.
Wilmis Paulino and Yanzel Correa combined for three scoreless innings of relief to close it out.
Fresno got to Visalia starter Chung-Hsiang Huang early. In the second, Aidan Redahan walked and eventually scored on a Carlos Renzullo groundout, and Ronny Ugarte and Jesus Freitez both crossed the plate on an Andujar single that made it 3-0.
The Grizzlies tacked on two more in the fourth.
Ugarte walked and Andujar singled to put runners in scoring position, and Martinez ripped a two-run triple to right field — his first Single-A Triple — to make it 5-0 and chase Huang from the game after four innings.
Visalia avoided the shutout in the fifth. Adriel Radney led off with a single and eventually scored on Tytus Cissell's RBI single, but the Rawhide managed just one more hit the rest of the way and never threatened again.
Andujar was the story of the night at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Martinez added his triple and two RBIs of his own.
Cristian Arguelles chipped in a hit and a stolen base, and Ugarte scored twice.
Fresno finished with 10 hits and drew four walks as a team, going 3-for-8 with runners in scoring position while stranding 10 runners on the bases.
Huang took the loss and remains winless on the season, falling to 0-8 with an ERA now up to 6.38.
The Grizzlies did not muster much against the Visalia bullpen but the Rawhide offense tallied just one hit in the final three innings against Fresno’s relievers.
Paulino surrendered a leadoff single in the 7th before retiring the final six batters he faced, including a string of four consecutive strikeouts.
Correa cruised through the ninth, retiring the side to close out the win.
The win is the 12th of the year for Fresno against Visalia putting them one win away from securing the Highway 99 Rivalry Series trophy.
The third game of the series is Thursday night at Chukchansi Park as Fresno turns to Bryson Van Sickle for the 6:50pm start time.
