Game Recap | Hens beat Storm Chasers in front of sold out crowd

Toledo, OH- The Toledo Mud Hens (53-60) defeated the Omaha Storm Chasers (55-58) on Sunday, August 8, in a beautiful afternoon series finale. The Mud Hens held the Storm chasers scoreless for eight innings after an opening frame home run, winning 3-1.

Omaha jumped right into putting up a number in the contest with a two-out solo shot to right field (1-0). Toledo had one baserunner reach on a walk, but they were retired hitless in the first.

The Hens matched the run in frame two. Justice Bigbie popped a short ball to center which was dropped in the infield and set up Trei Cruz’s sharp RBI-double that stayed just inside the foul line (1-1). Cruz then made it home on a single off Andrew Navigato’s swing for a 2-1 lead.

Toledo defense retired Omaha in order to start the third. Offense stepped up in the home half by loading the bases and bringing one home on a sacrifice. (3-1)

Jackson Wolf, made his Mud Hens debut out of the bullpen in the fifth. The lefty's first outing in the white and red was a success as he put away 11 consecutive Storm Chasers after allowing only one hit.

In the seventh, Wenceel Pérez reached on a force out at second, then Jack Goodman stepped in as his pinch-runner. Goodman remained in the game at third base; Cruz shifted to right field.

The scoring concluded after Toledo’s sacrifice RBI in the third, and the home team walked away on top. Jackson Wolf got the win; Troy Watson pitched the final inning to garner the save.

Toledo hits the road on Tuesday, August 11, for a six-game series in Louisville. Game one will have a first pitch time of 6:35p.m. and the Hens look to add another win to their record.
