St. Paul, MN- The Toledo Mud Hens (60-68) trumped the St. Paul Saints (73-55), on Thursday, August 27 in game three of the series. A home run on pitch number one sparked some momentum, and it continued to build for nine complete innings. Two additional home runs were hit out of the park by Hens in the contest, which helped propel the visitors to a 9-3 victory.

The score became 1-0, Toledo, after the first pitch was thrown, as Trei Cruz smashed one out of the park as quickly as could be. Carl Edwards Jr. started hot on the bump as well. The pitcher struck out the first batter he faced and retired the next two in order.

Cal Stevenson reached in the second which set up Michael Siani’s two-run shot (3-0). The batter fought at the plate for 10 pitches before he was rewarded with the missile.

Cruz struck again in the fourth, bringing in a pair of runs on a sharp grounder up the middle (5-0). Three walks in the frame loaded the bases; the Hens did not capitalize.

Max Burt wanted a piece of the home run pie, so he got it in the fifth. His two-run swing put Toledo up 7-0.

Edwards Jr. tallied at least one strikeout in every inning he pitched. The righty’s impressive showing spanned 4.1 innings and earned seven strikeouts. Beau Brieske followed out of the pen.

Brieske gave up a two-run home run in the fifth and a solo shot in the sixth for a 7-3 score.

Offense was quiet for the Hens after the fifth until the top of the eighth. Josue Briceño knocked a 2RBI-double that added a pair to their advantage. (9-3)

The score held going into the bottom of the ninth. The Hens just had to hold the Saints off for the last three outs of the day to claim the game four win. They did just that and took the series lead 2-1 over the home team.

Toledo is back for game four at CHS Field vs. St. Paul on Friday, August 28. First pitch is set for 8:07p.m and the Hens look to stay in the win column.
