FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Grizzlies fought back after falling behind early but couldn't complete the comeback, falling 8-5 to the San Jose Giants on Thursday night at Chukchansi Park.
San Jose jumped out early, scoring three in the second on an Oliver Tejada two-run homer and adding four more in the third on a string of walks and wild pitches capped by a Josuar Gonzalez two-run double, building a commanding 7-1 lead.
Daniel Jackson answered with a leadoff solo homer in the second to get the Grizzlies on the board, and Fresno kept chipping away.
In the fifth, Jack Natili singled and Cort MacDonald followed with a two-run homer, and Landyn Vidourek tripled and later scored on an Ashly Andujar sacrifice fly, pulling the Grizzlies within three at 7-4.
San Jose answered with a run in the seventh to push the lead back to 8-4, but Fresno had one more push in it, with Andujar's RBI single in the bottom half cutting the deficit to 8-5.
The Grizzlies couldn't find the big hit they needed down the stretch, and the Giants closed it out from there.
Jackson and MacDonald both went deep for the Grizzlies, and Andujar drove in two runs to lead the offense.
Fresno finished with nine hits despite battling free passes and wild pitches from the mound.
The Grizzlies magic number remains at two heading into the final three games of the season.
Friday night the Grizzlies will look to reign supreme on DC Night with specialty uniforms just the tip of the iceberg.
The Grizzlies will turn to Brady Parker, the California League leader in strikeouts, while the Giants will debut the #4 overall pick of the 2026 draft, Jackson Flora.
