Toledo, OH – The Mud Hens and Bats played in Game 3 of their six-game series, where Toledo won 5-1.

The first 2 innings were quiet for both offenses, with neither team recording a hit. The first hit of the night came in the bottom of the 4th, when Cal Stevenson produced a double into the left-field corner.

The Mud Hens were first to score in the bottom of the 3rd, but did so without a hit. Toledo started the inning with three straight walks from Max Burt, Trei Cruz and James Outman to load the bases. Max Anderson then walked in the following at-bat, allowing Burt to score and putting the Hens on the board. Toledo brought another run home on a sacrifice fly from Jace Jung, putting the Hens up 2-0 after three.

In the top of the 5th, Louisville cut into the deficit with a solo shot. Will Benson took one to right-center to make it 2-1.

Toledo regained its two-run lead in the bottom of the 5th. Trei Cruz once again got on base with a leadoff walk, then scored from first on a long fly ball from Jace Jung that bounced off the wall in right-center. The play put the Hens back up by two at 3-1.

The Hens tacked on two more in the 7th. Cruz was once again at the start of the offensive push, getting on base for the third time tonight with a hard ground ball in the 3-4 gap. However, he was wiped off the basepaths when James Outman grounded into a fielder’s choice. With a runner on first, Max Anderson singled on a liner into center, putting runners on the corners. Jung followed with his second double of the night, scoring both runners and making it 5-1 after seven complete.

Toledo held on to its lead and secured the final outs to earn the 5-1 victory. Dylan File earned the win for Toledo after pitching six complete innings, allowing just one run while striking out five. Toledo now leads the series 3-0, and both teams will be back tomorrow night with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
