Pigs fall 3-1 in Moosic

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs were limited to just two hits in 3-1 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The RailRiders have taken the first two games in this series and tied the 2018 Iron Rail Rivalry at 4-4.

Enyel De Los Santos (4-1) had not allowed a run in his last three starts, but surrendered three on a pair of home runs Wednesday at PNC Field. After a scoreless first, and recording two outs in the bottom of the second the RailRiders snapped De Los Santos' scoreless streak on a Ryan McBroom home run to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
The RailRiders got some insurance in the bottom of the fourth when Mike Ford hit a solo shot to make the lead 3-0.
De Los Santos was lifted after six inning of work. He struck out five and issued one walk in the outing. Allowing five hits and three runs, it was the first time this season that De Los Santos allowed more than one earned run in an outing.
Brandon Leibrandt who has yet to allow a run in 2018, took over for De Los Santos in the bottom of the seventh inning. After tossing a scoreless seventh, Leibrandt now has 26 2/3 straight scoreless innings (24 this season) which leaves him a 1/3 of an inning behind Pat Venditte for the longest scoreless innings streak in IronPigs history.
RailRiders starter Chance Adams (1-2) held the IronPigs to just one hit through the first seven innings. Adams struck out 10 and retired the last 14 batters he faced.
The Pigs wasted no time making noise against the RailRiders bullpen as Joey Meneses led off the eighth with a solo home run off Raynel Espinal. Despite loading the bases with just one out, the Pigs could only plate the one run in the eighth.
Though limited to just two hits in the game, the Pigs managed to get the go-ahead run to the plate three times in the top of the ninth but were unable to score as Cody Carroll closed the door.
The IronPigs and RailRiders wrap up their three-game series Thursday at 10:35 a.m. Tom Eshleman goes for win No. 2 on the season in Moosic.
The Pigs return home Monday night for a four-game series against IL North opponent Rochester.
