Garcia, Guillory named Players of the Week
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.- Week seven of Minor League Baseball Players of the Week have rolled in and this go-around, first baseman Roman Garcia from Greeneville and right-handed pitcher Evan Guillory from Johnson City were tabbed for the Appalachian League honors for games played from August 7-13.

Both honors were the first of the season for Garcia and Guillory, however, it was the third honor of the season for the Johnson City club as slugger

Guillory laid stake to his Pitcher of the Week award after tossing a gem against the Kingsport Mets on August 8 inside TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City, Tenn. The right-handed hurler tossed seven innings of no-run baseball in his third start of the season-allowing only two hits with eight strikeouts and only one walk. Cardinals righty totaled 90 pitches overall in the start with 63 strikes.
The 2017 23rd-round selection out of Louisiana-Lafayette took home his second win of the season in the start as the Cardinals downed the K-Mets by a final score of 8-4 in the ballgame. Kingsport was held to no runs off only two hits heading into the ninth inning of the contest.
Guillory, 6-3 and 210 pounds, currently owns a 2-1 record on the year in 13 overall appearances. Over the course of 31 1/3 innings pitched on the season, the rookie owns a 2.87 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP with 28 strikeouts and only five walks. The 21-year-old also sports a .216 batting average against to opposing hitters.
Garcia was named Offensive Player of the Week for the league after going 9-for-12 at the plate with three home runs, five RBIs, five runs scored, six strikeouts and a walk over the course of seven games played throughout the week. During the span, the Astros were 4-3 thanks to the first baseman's .429 average at the plate.
The 21-year-old tallied at least one hit in every game played throughout the week, excluding two, while launching two home runs against the Elizabethton Twins on August 8 during the Astros' 6-5 victory. A native of Coronado, CA., Garcia drove in three runs during the game while also homering the day before against the Twins.
After dropping a double-header shutout sweep to the Kingsport Mets on Saturday, August 12, Garcia ramped a Greenville offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a run scored, an RBI and a walk a day later during the Astros 5-4 come-from-behind win in Game 3 of the five-game Appalachian League West series.
Currently on the season, the Houston Astros 2017 19th-round selection out of San Diego owns a .261 average in 32 games on the year with six home runs and 20 RBIs. Garcia has scored 22 runs off 29 hits on the year with six-more extra-base hits besides the six long balls. Greeneville's first baseman also owns an .843 OPS on the season.
