Jackson, Tenn. - Despite 13 hits and a nearly strikeout-free night, the Jackson Generals couldn't match Mississippi, losing 9-3 on Wednesday at The Ballpark at Jackson. Generals shortstop Colin Walsh reached base safely in his 20th consecutive game, while first baseman Kevin Cron went 2-for-5 at the plate, upping his team-high RBI count to 33.
Mississippi right-hander Mike Soroka (6-3, 3.13 ERA) scattered 11 Generals hits over the course of six innings, allowing three earned runs while only walking one. The Generals (27-25) were unable to capitalize on a bases-loaded, none-out situation in the seventh inning, finishing the game 1-for-11 with men in scoring position. Mississippi scored 9 runs on 14 hits overall.

The Generals' best chance at a comeback occurred with reliever Jesse Biddle (H, 5) on the hill in the 7th. Entering with Mississippi (26-26) leading 7-3, Biddle took over after Soroka left the bases loaded following three straight singles. The left-hander struck out Cron for the first out, but he walked in a run by giving a base-on-balls to Kelly Dugan. Biddle then got Dawel Lugo to bounce into an inning-ending double play to kill the rally.
Jackson starter Alex Young (3-3, 4.64 ERA) fell victim to the same barrel-on-ball contact that hurt Brad Keller the game before. Young retired the first three M-Braves hitters in order, but he allowed a hit in each inning thereafter, giving up a season-high nine in total. A two-out walk and a pair of successive singles brought Mississippi even at 1-1 in the top of the second, and Joey Meneses hit a three-run homer in the third to push the visitors ahead for good.
Cron's two hits were RBI doubles in the first and third innings, each time scoring Rudy Flores. Walsh walked in the first inning to keep his streak alive, singling twice later in the contest. Flores finished with a trio of hits, including his team-best 14th double of the year.
