Generals Prevail In Marathon Affair

Chattanooga, Tenn. - It took more than four hours and 14 innings, but the Generals took down Chattanooga 4-2 Tueseday night at AT&T Field. Jackson's bullpen combined to cover nine scoreless innings, and the offense came through with two in the top of the 14^th to secure the victory.
Gabriel Moya (4-1, 1.29) spearheaded a great effort by the Jackson relief corps, earning the victory with three shutout innings and six strikeouts. All told, the bullpen threw nine shutout frames. Miller Díaz, Joey Krehbiel, Jared Miller, Moya and Yuhei Nakaushiro struck out 14 while walking just four and allowing five hits.

The game was tied at two from the end of the fifth until the start of the 14^th inning, when Jackson (30-28) finally broke through against Nick Anderson (0-1, 4.50). Rudy Flores led off with a single before Kevin Cron walked to put two men on. A passed ball moved both men up, allowing Dawel Lugo to put the Generals up with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. One batter later, Kelly Dugan drove home Cron with a single to right field that made it 4-2.
Yuhei Nakaushiro (S, 2) worked out of a jam to pick up his second save of the season. After allowing the first two men in the bottom of the 14^th to reach, he induced a double play from Edgar Corcino. With the tying run at the plate, Nakaushiro got LaMonte Wade to ground out harmlessly to first base to end it.
Chattanooga (32-26) took an early lead off of Joel Payamps on a Nick Gordon single, but the Generals answered right back in the top of the fourth. After a Rudy Flores single, Kevin Cron hit a monstrous home run down the left-field line off of Matt Tracy to put Jakson on top 2-1.
With Jackson winning in the bottom of the fifth, a storm popped up that forced a 24-minute delay in the contest. The Lookouts managed to tie the game when play resumed on another run-scoring single from Gordon. That was the last run until Jackson broke the tie nine innings later.
The game was the longest of the season for Jackson both in terms of time (four hours and 17 minutes) and innings (14). With the victory, Jackson avoided dropping four in a row for the first time all season. The Generals also stayed above .500 and three games behind Montgomery in the First Half standings.
The Generals are back at it early Wednesday for a morning game at AT&T Field. All-Star Taylor Clarke (5-2, 2.57) goes for Jackson against Chattanooga's Felix Jorge (5-1, 3.48).
