Mobile, Ala. - After and off day and a rainout, the Generals took advantage of a chance to play two with a doubleheader sweep of Mobile at Hank Aaron Stadium Thursday night. Jackson took the opener 6-2 before holding on to win the nightcap by a 4-3 final.
With the wins, Jackson (17-9) pushed it's lead over Tennessee in the North Division to 1.5 games. The Generals have the best record in the Southern League, while Mobile (11-16) dropped to fifth in the South Division.

Game One: Generals 6, Mobile 2
The Generals jumped out to an early lead in game one of the doubleheader and did not look back en route to a 6-2 win. Jackson got a pair of first inning homers, and added four runs in the sixth inning to back a strong performance by the staff in their first seven-inning game of the year.
Colin Walsh led off the contest with a solo blast to right-center field to put Jackson on top. Two batters later, Rudy Flores lined a shot over the fence in right to make it 2-0 Generals before Mobile had a chance to hit.
Alex Young (2-0, 1.82) was splendid on the mound to pick up his second win of the year. He allowed just three singles over four scoreless innings to start, before surrendering his lone run on a Wade Wass homer in the fifth. Young allowed just the one score on four hits over five innings without walking a batter.
Jackson's offense slowed down after the two early homers against Mobile starter Parker Bridwell (0-1, 2.00). The team had just one hit over the next four innings before rallying in the sixth inning. With two outs and nobody on, Victor Reyes doubled before coming home on a two-bagger by Rudy Flores. After a pitching change, a pair of walks loaded the bases and Kelly Dugan made it 4-1 with an infield single. Jamie Westbrook capped off the big inning with a two-run double down the line in left to put the Generals up five.
Steve Hathaway started his rehab assignment in game one, retiring one of the four men he faced. The lefty was knocked out after giving up an RBI single to Forrest Allday, but 6-2 was as close as Mobile would get. Daniel Gibson (S, 1) shut the door to pick up his first save of the season.
Game Two: Generals 4, Mobile 3
The second game was tighter, with the Generals holding on to edge the BayBears by a run in the nightcap. The BayBears got within one with a run in the sixth inning, but Gabe Speier struck out the side in the seventh to cap off a 4-3 victory.
Jackson jumped in front behind a three-run third inning in game two. Again, it was a two-out rally. Victor Reyes singled and scored on a double to the opposite field by Dawel Lugo to put the Generals on the board. Kevin Cron followed with an RBI double off the base of the left-field fence, and Rudy Flores capped off the scoring with a single to plate Cron to make it 3-0.
Flores had two hits in each of the games for the Generals to extend his hitting streak to ten games. He also drove in three runs over both contests.
Mobile got on the board in the fourth inning on Forrest Allday's first home run of the season, but the Generals answered back with a score in the top of the fifth against starter Tyler Carpenter (1-3, 4.05). Travis Denker led off the frame with a single and scored from first on another run-scoring double from Dawel Lugo to make it 4-1.
Ivan Pineyro (2-0, 2.84) pitched five strong innings to earn his second victory since joining the Generals from Visalia. Mobile cut the Jackson lead to two with an RBI single from Angel Rosa, but Pineyro finished the fifth without giving aup anything else.
The BayBears made it a one-run game thanks to a walk and a bloop single from Zach Houchins in the sixth. In his Double-A debut, catcher B.J. López finished off the inning by throwing out Houchins trying to steal third as the potential tying run.
Gabe Speier (S, 3) shut the door in the seventh by fanning the side in order. After punching out Wade Wass and Francisco Arcia, the lefty got Angel Rosa swinging to seal the 4-3 victory.
The Generals go for the series win in the middle game Friday night. Taylor Clarke (2-1, 2.86) takes the hill for Jackson against Mobile right-hander Grayson Long (0-1, 2.45).
