BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, wrestled the Birmingham Barons for eleven innings on Sunday, surviving a late charge from the home side in a 4-3 win at Regions Field.

The victory evens the six-game series between the Generals (43-36, 4-6 Second Half) and Barons (38-40, 6-4 Second Half) with two games still to play.
Taylor Widener gave the Generals their third quality start in the last four games, tossing six innings while giving up one run on a solo shot by Birmingham's Zack Collins. The All-Star right-hander struck out seven while allowing four hits and two walks on 99 pitches, departing with the game tied at 1-1. Brad Goldberg, the former Baron, pitched a scoreless inning of relief, and Yoan López worked a clean eighth inning before allowing a pair of runs to score in the ninth, tying the game at 3-3. With one out, the bases loaded, and the game hanging in the balance, Lopez survived by starting a 1-2-3 double play that got the Generals out of the jam, extending the action. Kevin Ginkel (2-0, 0.00 ERA) earned the win by holding Birmingham scoreless twice in extras, stretching his streak of scoreless innings at Double-A to 14.1.
Designated hitter Josh Prince made his Sunday count, putting the visitors in front in the second inning with his fourth homer of the year. For the next five frames, the Generals were foiled by Birmingham right-hander Dylan Cease, who held Jackson to five hits in his seven innings on the hill. With the game tied 1-1, Marty Herum came through in the eighth inning with a two-out, two-strike, two-run single that gave the Generals the 3-1 lead at the time. In extras, the visitors were held scoreless in the tenth, but a one-out single in the eleventh by Prince plated Jamie Westbrook with the critical go-ahead run. Prince, Westbrook, and Herum all finished with a pair of hits, as Prince raised his batting average to a team-leading .400 across 10 Second Half games.
