CLINTON, IA (June 13, 2017) - Basketball star Devan Douglas will be returning home to Clinton and attending Thursday night's game between the Clinton LumberKings and Beloit Snappers. Douglas, who is currently playing with the Harlem Globetrotters, will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures with fans during the LumberKings final home game of the first half of the season.
Douglas attended the University of Mary in Bismark, North Dakota where he thrilled NCAA basketball fans in the Slam Dunk contest during the Final Four in Houston, winning the event. A month following his Cinderella win, he earned his degree to complete his collegiate career.
Head Coach for the University of Mary, Joe Kittell called him "the ultimate entertainer." And following his College career Douglas announced that he would be continuing his basketball career with one of the most well-known teams in basketball history, the Harlem Globtrotters.
Douglas played his high-school basketball for the RiverKings of Clinton High School and played his junior season behind future NFL star David Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals. In his senior season, he averaged 15 points as the primary scoring option.
What brings Douglas back home to Clinton will be his 2nd Annual Devan Douglas 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The tournament will be played on Sunday, June 18 at Clinton Central Park from 8 a.m. until completion. Teams can register for just $80 with all boys and girls age 12 and up welcome to take part in a day of basketball and fun. The event will include BBQ, music, and a bounce house for kids plus much much more.
