MISSOULA, MONT. - On Tuesday morning, the Major League Player's Alumni Association (MLBPAA) announced that Osprey alumnus Paul Goldschmidt was named the 2017 Heart and Hustle Award winner for the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. As the only award in Major League Baseball that is voted on by former players, the honor is a unique one for Goldschmidt, who made his professional debut with the Osprey in 2009.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo was quoted as saying about Goldschmidt, " Paul plays every pitch of the game with a humble, hardworking attitude. He places himself behind every one of his teammates when it comes to a picking order."
While every organization in Major League Baseball is honored with a Heart and Hustle Award winner, the final winner for all of Major League Baseball will be announced on November 14, 2017 at the 18th Annual Legends for Youth Dinner in New York City. As the Diamondbacks' representative, Goldschmidt will be in contention for league-wide recognition at that time.
Goldschmidt regularly illustrated the character that is highlighted by his acceptance of the Heart and Hustle Award during his lone season in Missoula. While playing for Missoula as a 21-year-old, Goldschmidt smashed 18 home runs in 74 games, while batting .334 and producing 62 RBI.
