Spinners Take Series From Renegades
WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY-Lowell Spinners first baseman Devlin Granberg drove in three runs with two hits, and third baseman Xavier LeGrant went 3-5 with two runs scored as the Spinners defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades 8-2 Wednesday night at Dutchess Stadium.
For the third night in a row Lowell broke out on top by putting a run on the board in the first. Second baseman Grant Williams started the inning with a walk, then went to second on a stolen base. After a bunt single moved him to third, Williams scored when the Renegades threw to second on a stolen base attempt. As the throw went to second, Williams broke for home and scored standing.
Hudson Valley got the run back in the second. With one out third baseman Adrian Rondon blooped a double down the rightfield line. After a groundout moved him to third, second baseman Garrett Giovannelli came through with a groundball RBI single to center to tie the game.
The Spinners retook the lead with a single run in the third. LeGrant started the inning by roping a double into the leftfield corner. He moved to third on a groundout, then scored on a single to right by shortstop Korby Batesole.
The Renegades tied the game again in the bottom of the third. Shortstop Tanner Dodson started the inning with a single, then scored two batters later when first baseman Jacson McGowan ripped a double to left-centerfield to make the score 2-2.
Lowell got the lead back in the fourth as Granberg continued his hot-hitting with a solo-homerun over the leftfield wall. The lined shot was Granberg's second of the year.
The Spinners would bust the game open in the fifth with four more runs as eight men came to the plate. LeGrant started the frame with a double to left, went to third on an infield single by Williams, then scored on another single from Batesole. Two batters later, with runners at first and second and one away, Granberg smacked a two-run double to right-center and increase Lowell's lead to 6-2. With two out, designated hitter Trey Ganns stood in and laced an RBI single to right to score Granberg from third and up the Spinners lead to five.
The visitors would add one more run in the eighth. Rightfielder Tyler Dearden started the inning with a double to left-centerfield. After a groundout moved him to third, leftfielder Dylan Hardy brought him home with a triple down the leftfield line to make the final 8-2.
Getting the win for Lowell in relief was Rio Gomez (2-0) who fired three scoreless innings on hit while striking out four. The loss fell to Renegades starter Nick Padila (2-4) who allowed six earned runs on eight hits over four-plus frames.
Lowell had 13 hits in the contest with Granberg finishing 2-5 with a homer, double, two runs scored and three RBI. LeGrant scored twice on his two doubles. Batesole finished 3-5 with three singles, two RBI and a run scored. Ganns chipped in with two singles and an RBI himself.
Hudson Valley had only six hits. McGowan was the only Renegade with multiple hits as he finished 2-3 with a double and RBI.
The Renegades now hit the road for a three-game series against the Vermont Lake Monsters beginning tomorrow at 7:05. Southpaw Blake Pflughaupt (2-1, 2.67 ERA) will take the hill for Hudson Valley against fellow lefty Jhnederson Hurtado (2-2, 2.70 ERA) of Vermont.
