In April, his book "Houston to Cooperstown - The Houston Astros Biggio & Bagwell Years," was released by Cardinal Publishers Group. It chronicles the careers and relationship of two players inextricably linked to one another and the greatest era of Astros Baseball, a pair whose work ethic and other leadership skills established a championship culture and set dual courses for the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Craig Biggio was inducted two years ago, and Jeff Bagwell follows suit a day after Lucas signs copies of his new book for Astros and Hooks fans on Saturday, July 29. Greg will be available at Hook, Line & Sinker, official team store of the Hooks, from 5:30 p.m. until 7 before the Hooks-Midland game.
For over 45 years, Lucas has worked as a sportscaster and play-by-play announcer, covering MLB teams Houston and Texas, and the NBA's Rockets, Spurs, and Pacers. He's called over 4,000 sporting events, including college football, basketball, and baseball, and worked 25 different sports.
"Houston to Cooperstown - The Houston Astros Biggio & Bagwell Years" is the Butler graduate's second book. The overview:
The Astros went 50 years without a Hall of Fame inductee until Craig Biggio became their first, followed two years later by Jeff Bagwell, arguably the two most influential and memorable players in franchise history. They helped lead the team to its first-ever, and only, World Series. Both spent their entire careers in Houston. To the Houston Astros and their fans, however, Biggio and Bagwell weren't just memorable, they were part of the "Killer B's," a group of players who helped make the Astros famous in Texas. Lucas explores both Biggio and Bagwell's legacies with stories from the stands, teammates, his own announcing days, and the Hall of Famers themselves. The book also examines Colt .45s/Astros history and the building of today's team.
"Houston to Cooperstown - The Houston Astros Biggio & Bagwell Years" can be reserved through Hook, Line and Sinker(361-561-4700) beginning July 14th.
