Grizzlies drop second straight with 6-1 loss to I-Cubs

The Fresno Grizzlies (66-47) were held to just four hits in a 6-1 loss to the Iowa Cubs (52-58) on Saturday night. Despite the loss, Fresno has won 15 of their last 20 road games and is 23-9 on the road since they were 12 games back from first place

The Fresno Grizzlies (66-47) were held to just four hits in a 6-1 loss to the Iowa Cubs (52-58) on Saturday night. Despite the loss, Fresno has won 15 of their last 20 road games and is 23-9 on the road since they were 12 games back from first place on May 24. Although they did not hit a home run, the Grizzlies continue to lead all of Minor League Baseball with 174 long balls.
Fresno right-hander Rogelio Armenteros had earned a win in all of his first five Triple-A starts. Despite striking out a season-high nine batters for the second consecutive game, Armenteros (5-1) was tagged with the loss Saturday. He had tossed five scoreless innings before allowing a home run in the sixth.
Victor Caratini (3-for-4) homered in the second straight contest to give Iowa a 2-1 lead in the sixth frame. His 10th home run of the season was a two-run shot to left. The lone Fresno run was scored when Alejandro Garcia reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Jack Mayfield to score after a leadoff single in the fifth.
The sixth frame continued for Iowa as they went on to take a 4-1 lead. Elliot Soto knocked a base hit to score Jacob Hannemann (single) and a John Andreoli sacrifice fly scored Chris Dominguez who was hit by a pitch. In the seventh, Caratini drove in Taylor Davis (3-for-4) with a RBI double to end his night a triple away from the cycle. Caratini himself was the last run of the game when he scored on a Chesny Young sacrifice fly to make the final score 6-1.
Iowa starter Seth Frankoff allowed the one run on two hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Righty Félix Peña (2-1) earned the win in relief with four strikeouts through two scoreless innings of no-hit ball.
Fresno and Iowa will close out the four-game series on Sunday at Principal Park. Probable starters are RHP David Martinez (6-9, 4.76) for the Grizzlies and RHP Eddie Butler (2-0, 1.98) for the Cubs. First pitch is set for 11:08 a.m. PT.
