WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 7, 2017) - Thanks to a six-inning, 12-strikeout effort on August 5 against Potomac, Winston-Salem right-hander Alec Hansen has earned the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week award for the week of July 31-August 6, the league office announced Monday.
On the heels of a 12-strikeout effort at Lynchburg in his previous outing on July 30, Hansen did not miss a beat in the Dash's 6-0 win over the Nationals last Saturday. Making his eighth High-A start, the righty yielded only two hits and two walks in six shutout innings. Dominant from the get-go, Hansen posted his fourth Minor League performance of 12 or more strikeouts. In his last five starts, the Loveland, Colo., native has recorded a combined 46 punchouts in 28.2 frames.

Selected with the 49th overall pick by Chicago in the 2016 Draft, Hansen leads all qualifying full-season White Sox farmhands with 150 strikeouts and a 2.44 ERA. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old is tied for second in wins (9) within the system this season with fellow Winston-Salem pitcher Bernardo Flores. With the Dash, Hansen is 2-4 with a 2.38 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 41.2 innings pitched.
Monday marks the second time a Dash pitcher has claimed the league's weekly honor this year. Left-hander Tanner Banks collected Winston-Salem's most recent Pitcher of the Week honor from June 12-18, thanks to a nine-inning, five-hit shutout on June 13 against Down East. A Midseason Carolina League All-Star, Banks went 7-3 with a 3.05 ERA in the Dash purple before his promotion to Double-A Birmingham.
Following a quick three-game set at Frederick, the Dash will return to BB&T Ballpark on Friday, August 11, to begin an eight-game homestand against the Lynchburg Hillcats and Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
The promotional schedule for the upcoming homestand includes our final All-You-Can-Eat for Free Night on August 14, another Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday and Family Sunday, Pups in the Park and much more. Also, for Winston-Salem's doubleheader against the Pelicans, the Dash will pay homage to their previous moniker once more this season, donning throwback Warthogs uniforms for game one before changing back to the Dash for the twin bill finale.
As a thank you to the fans, the Dash are offering $7 tickets to Tuesday's doubleheader as part of the team's Fan Appreciation efforts. These tickets must be purchased in advance and will be good for both games of the twin bill. For more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
