April 24, 2018

Hartford, CT - The Hartford Yard Goats (9-9) hit back-to-back homers with two outs in the eighth inning, and beat the Portland Sea Dogs (6-11), 4-1 on Tuesday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park.

Hartford, CT - The Hartford Yard Goats (9-9) hit back-to-back homers with two outs in the eighth inning, and beat the Portland Sea Dogs (6-11), 4-1 on Tuesday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park.

Both homers were controversial and led to the ejection of Portland Manager Darren Fenster. Ryan Metzler's two-run homer did not clear the fence from the video replay, and evidently hit below the yellow line. On the very next pitch, Mylz Jones hit a solo-blast down the left-field line, which the Sea Dogs felt was foul.
Teddy Stankiewicz (1-3) suffered the loss in relief of Travis Lakins (ND). Stankiewicz pitched five innings on three runs, five hits, four walks and five strikeouts.
Lakins dazzled in his season debut, allowing one unearned run over three innings. The righty was activated from the disabled list before the game, allowed four hits, no walks and fanned three.
Portland tied the game in the fifth when their first hit of the game, a Danny Mars single, scored Luke Tendler.
Hartford's Ryan Castellani worked five innings on one hit, six walks, and five strikeouts. Marc Magliaro pitched a scoreless inning for the win, and Marc Pierpont pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save of the year.
The Sea Dogs have dropped four straight on the road, and Hartford has won all five on their homestand.
The Sea Dogs and Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies affiliate) play the final game of their three-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM from Dunkin' Donuts Park. Righty Mike Shawaryn (1-1, 2.7) makes his fourth start of the year for Portland. Hartford sends Jesus Tinoco (2-1, 4.91) to the hill. Radio coverage begins at 6:50 PM on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network and the TuneIn App.
Portland returns to Hadlock Field on Friday, April 27th to start a six-game homestand. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.seadogs.com or calling 207-879-9500.
