JUPITER, Fla. – Back-to-back home runs from Kyle Henley and Tyson Lewis brought Daytona back within a run midway through the game, but the Jupiter Hammerheads answered late to hand the Tortugas a 7-2 loss Friday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Daytona fell to 14-29 overall and 5-17 on the road after dropping its 10th game in 13 meetings against Jupiter this season.

The Rundown

Justin Henschel turned in the longest outing of his professional career, working 4.1 innings while allowing three runs and tying a career high with two strikeouts. The Hammerheads broke through first in the fourth inning.

After Andres Valor walked and stole second, a wild pitch moved him to third before Emilio Barreras lifted a sacrifice fly to left to open the scoring and give Jupiter a 1-0 lead.

Jupiter added on in the fifth. Singles and walks loaded the bases before Dominic Scheffler entered in relief. Abrahan Ramirez worked a bases-loaded walk before Barreras was hit by a pitch to force in another run, extending the Hammerheads advantage to 3-0.

The Tortugas answered immediately in the sixth.

With two outs, Henley turned on a pitch and drove it down the left-field line for his first home run of the season. Two pitches later, Lewis followed with a blast to right-center field as Daytona pulled within 3-2.

Jupiter responded in the bottom half. A walk and single put pressure back on Daytona before another bases-loaded walk to Ramirez restored a two-run lead at 4-2.

The Hammerheads pulled away in the eighth.

Three straight Jupiter baserunners loaded the bases before Barreras lined a two-run single through the infield to cap a three-run frame and stretch the lead to 7-2. Daytona put two runners aboard in the ninth, but could not mount a comeback.
