Buffalo struck first in the top of the third after a Michael Saunders double off of Wings pitcher Stephen Gonsalves plated Jon Berti making it 1-0 Bisons.
The Rochester offense struggled to get something going offensively against Bisons pitcher Luis Santos. In the first five innings Santos only allowed one hit to the Wings, which was a single by Matt Hague in the second inning.
Levi Michael picked up his first Triple-A hit in style. In the bottom of the sixth inning, he hit a solo home run to deep left center off of Santos tying the game at 1-1.
Gonsalves was relieved in the top of the seventh by Nik Turley. Gonsalves finished with six innings pitched, allowing seven hits, one run, two walks and struck out six on 98 pitches, 58 being for strikes.
In the bottom of the seventh, Niko Goodrum ripped a double that put the go-ahead run on second base with two outs for Rochester. The Red Wings were unable to cash in on this chance and stranded Goodrum to end the inning keeping the game tied at 1-1.
Santos finished with 7.0 innings on the mound, allowing five hits and one earned run. He did not walk a batter, struck out seven, and threw 98 pitches - 58 for strikes.
Turley provided two solid innings of relief work out of the bullpen, allowing no hits and striking out one Bison in the process. In the top of the ninth Turley walked the first batter he faced, and Michael Tonkin came out of the bullpen to take over for Turley. Tonkin got a flyout and two strikeouts to end the threat.
The Wings put a runner on to open their half of the ninth, when Carlos Ramirez walked Hague. ByungHo Park hit a long flyball out to the warning track for the first out, Goodrum struck out for the second out, and Anthony Recker doubled. Hague tried to score the winning run but was thrown out at home to send the game into extra innings.
Tonkin retired all six batters he faced with three strikeouts, and Yohan Pino took over to start the 11th. A pair of singles off Pino, a sacrifice bunt, and an intentional walk gave the Bisons a bases loaded scoring chance with one out. Dwight Smith, Jr's sacrifice fly brought in the go ahead run and the Bisons took a 3-2 lead.

THIS DAY IN RED WINGS HISTORY
1933 - Rochester increased its hold on second place in the International League standings by beating Toronto 8-5. 9,000 fans were in attendance to see winning pitcher, Tony Kaufmann, shut out the Maple Leafs for eight innings.
1976 - Bob Glasso and Scott McGregor's wins gave the Wings a sweep of a double header against the Syracuse Sky Chiefs, clinching the International League pennant for Rochester. The wins gave manager Joe Altobelli his third pennant in six seasons with the Red Wings.
2005 - Luis Maza had two hits and two runs batted in, and Francisco Liriano struck out nine in leading the Red Wings to a 5-2 win over on the Ottawa Lynx Thursday night at Frontier Field. The Wings remain within two games of first place Buffalo, who defeated Syracuse 17-7 Thursday afternoon.
2006 - Former Red Wing infielder Eddy Garabito clubbed a two-run homer, sparking a six-run third inning in Ottawa's 7-3 win over the Red Wings Friday night at Frontier Field... Kevin West and Josh Rabe had two hits each for Rochester.
THIS DAY IN INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE HISTORY
1971 - Outfielder Chris Coletta spent over a decade in professional baseball, though he would playonly 14 games in the Major Leagues (coming in 1972 with California). The highlight of his long Minor League career occurred on August 25, 1971, as the veteran established a Louisville baseball record that has never been broken. Coletta has a field day against Winnipeg pitching, scorching the Whips for six hits to lead the Colonels to victory. His club record of six hits would eventually be equaled by Mark Budzinski on June 6, 2003 in an 18-inning game.

1997 - Boston's Nomar Garciaparra singles twice to extend his hitting streak to 27 games, breaking the American League rookie record set by Guy Curtright of the Chicago White Sox in 1943. The Red Sox come back to beat the Mariners 9-8. Garciaparra's streak will extend to thirty games.
