WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 29, 2019) - Down East infielder Yonny Hernandez and Carolina right-hander Dylan File have earned the Carolina League's Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, for the week of April 22-28, the league office announced on Monday.
No player in Class A baseball reached base at a higher rate last week than Hernandez, who posted a .474/.615/.632 line in six outstanding games. He reached base at least twice in every game during a 3-3 week for the first-place Wood Ducks. The 20-year-old finished one hit (nine) and one stolen base (four) shy of the Carolina League lead for the week.

Hernandez has been one of the top hitters in the CL thus far this season. His .328 batting average is ninth among qualifiers, while his .471 on-base percentage trails only Winston-Salem's Luis Robert (.494). The Venezuela native has been outstanding in his first stint in High-A after posting a .260 average in 115 games with Low-A Hickory in 2018.
On the mound, File recorded a fantastic start at Myrtle Beach on Thursday to win the Pitcher of the Week award. He blanked the Pelicans over six innings, during which he scattered five hits and fanned five Pelicans. The Muddies went on to win the game 3-1 behind File's second straight quality start.
A former 21st-round pick by Milwaukee, File has logged a 4.09 earned run average in four starts. Like Hernandez, File is competing at the High-A level for the first time after going 8-10 with a 3.96 earned run average in 25 starts with Low-A Wisconsin last season.
Both Hernandez and File have earned a weekly league honor for the first time in their Minor League careers. Hernandez and the Wood Ducks open up a seven-game road trip with the first of four at Myrtle Beach on Monday. File is scheduled to make his next start on Tuesday at Salem.
