Hicklen Named Carolina League Player of the Week
Wilmington, DE- Wilmington Blue Rocks outfielder Brewer Hicklen was named Carolina League Player of the Week on Monday for the period ranging from August 19-25. It marks the third straight week a Rock has been honored by the league office with a weekly award and the fifth time overall in 2019.

Hicklen had an historic week when he became the first player in franchise history to hit three home runs in one game on Thursday against Salem. That came less than 24 hours after he launched two long balls in another victory over the Red Sox. Overall, Hicklen finished the seven-day stretch batting .440 (11-for-25) with five homers, a double, nine RBI and 10 runs scored.
The year-end Carolina League All Star leads the Blue Rocks in on-base percentage, slugging, homers, runs, hits and walks. He is slashing .268/.371/.438 in his first full season in Wilmington. He was selected by in the Royals in the seventh round of the 2017 Draft out of UAB when he became the highest drafted baseball player in program history. Hicklen had planned to play both football and baseball for the Blazers, but UAB unexpectedly shut down its football program be- fore the 2014 campaign. He transitioned back to football and it's worked out well ever since. He entered the season as the Royals' No. 17 prospect according to MLB.com.
He is the fifth Rock to win an award from the league office this season, but the first batter. Previous winners were pitcher
