CHARLESTON, S.C. - The New York Yankees have announced that right-hander Hobie Harris has been called up from Extended Spring Training, joining the RiverDogs roster on Saturday.
Harris, 23, logged 52 innings as a RiverDog during the 2016 season, posting a 2-4 record with a 2.60 ERA with 59 strikeouts to go along with 21 walks (52.0 IP). The McKinney, Texas native made the High-A Tampa roster out of Spring Training where he went 2-3 with a 3.48 ERA, striking out 21 in 20.2 innings, before being reassigned to extended on Friday. The former Pitt Panther was originally the Yankees' 31st round selection in the 2015 draft.
To make room for Harris, the Yankees released right-hander Kolton Mahoney from his contract. The 25-year-old product out of BYU went 8-8 with a 2.49 ERA in three seasons as a Yankee farmhand, including a 1.85 mark with 26 K's in 24.1 innings with the RiverDogs this season.
With their retooled bullpen, the RiverDogs (24-23) continue a crucial series with the first-place Greenville Drive (29-17) with game three of four at 6:05pm from The Joe. With 23 games remaining in the first half, the RiverDogs currently sit 5.5 games back of their in-state rivals. As part of a Saturdays Live at The Joe presentation, the club will toss 1,000 t-shirts featuring former RiverDogs Aaron Judge, Gary Sánchez, and Greg Bird following the game. Fans can follow the game on WTMA 1250 AM, streaming online via the TuneIn app, and watch the game on MiLB.tv. The pregame show, "Saturday Dog Talk" begins at 5:30pm on the RiverDogs radio network.
