MOBILE, Ala. (June 5, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, fell behind 5-0 early, cut the deficit to just one run, but ultimately lost 7-4 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Zach Houchins ignited the comeback effort with a three-run triple in the fourth inning, cutting Pensacola's lead to 5-3. Houchins plated another run with a double in the sixth. He has driven in all six BayBears (24-33) runs in the first two games of the series.
After Alex Blackford (0-1) departed, allowing five runs on eight hits in four innings, Conor Lillis-White kept the Blue Wahoos (33-24) off the board for the next three frames. For the second straight outing, Lillis-White did not a hit in three innings pitched. He recorded five strikeouts.
Alex Blandino had another multi-hit game, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI. Like Houchins, he has driven in six runs in the series as well.
José López (1-0) earned his first Double-A win, giving up four runs (one earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts in six innings. Ariel Hernández retired all nine batters he faced in a three-inning save.
Forrestt Allday went 0-for-3 but drew a walk in the fourth inning, extending his on-base streak to a league-best 34 games.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Pensacola Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-hander Grayson Long (3-3, 3.21 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Luis Castillo (2-3, 3.00 ERA) for the Blue Wahoos.
