MIDLAND - Matt Milburn and Zach Erwin kept Corpus Christi hitters in check Wednesday night as the RockHounds cruised to a 4-2 win over the Hooks at Security Bank Ballpark.

Milburn, who was tagged for nine runs on 12 hits in his last meeting with Corpus Christi, had retired 14 in a row before Stephen Wrenn lined a lead-off triple into the left-field corner in the sixth. Two outs later, Osvaldo Duarte beat out an RBI infield single to make it 2-1 Midland. The Hounds answered promptly.
Brandon Bailey permitted the first two to reach in the home half via a walk and a hit batsman. Following a sac bunt and intentional walk, Dairon Blanco cracked a 3-2 pitch off the wall in left to plate a pair.
Trailing 4-1 with one away in the seventh, Granden Goetzman doubled to left but Seth Beer was thrown out trying to reach third base. Ronnie Dawson was next and lifted an RBI single into right-center to cut the Midland edge in half.
Lefty Zach Erwin, who stranded two in the seventh, fanned five over 2.1 scoreless innings for his first Double-A save.
Corpus Christi right-handers Layne Henderson and Miguel Figueroa, both making their second Double-A appearance, combined for 2.2 shutout frames.
The Hooks, who have outhit Midland in the series, 16-11, aims to avoid being swept Thursday night with Carson LaRue on the hill. The Hounds are set to counter with James Naile. First pitch 7:00 p.m.
