Hunter Goodman capped off a season-long power surge with a pair of home runs on Saturday night in Chicago, becoming just the seventh former Spokane Indians player to reach the 40-homer threshold.

“I've been thinking about it. Since you hit 39, you’re thinking about 40,” said Goodman. “It was pretty awesome to be able to do it.”

Goodman joined the 40-homer club with a third-inning solo shot off White Sox southpaw Noah Schultz, and then added the exclamation point with No. 41—a three-run moon shot in the ninth that provide the winning runs in Colorado's 9-6 win over Chicago.

The home runs were No. 24 and No. 25 for the former Spokane Indians catcher away from Coors Field this season, setting a new record for road home runs by National League primary catcher (a record previously held by Hall of Famer Johnny Bench).

Goodman also became just the eighth primary catcher in MLB history to reach 40 home runs in a season, joining Cal Raleigh (2025), Salvador Perez (2021), Javy Lopez (2003), Mike Piazza (1997, 1999), Todd Hundley (1996), Johnny Bench (1970), 1972), and Roy Campanella (1953).

The 26-year-old backstop finished the season with a .245/.310/.529 slash line in 138 games, leading the NL in AB/HR (12.6) while also finishing among the circuit's top 10 in slugging (.529, 2nd), home runs (41, 3rd), and triples (5, 10th).

Originally a fifth-round pick by the Colorado Rockies out of the University of Memphis in 2021, Goodman appeared in 50 games with Spokane in 2022, slashing .315/.351/.589 with 16 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, and 34 RBI in 211 at-bats. He made his big league debut with the Rockies on August 27, 2023, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI against the Baltimore Orioles.
