DES MOINES - The Chicago Cubs today selected the contract of infielder Ian Happ from the Iowa Cubs. Happ is slated to make his major league debut as the starting right fielder against the Cardinals at 3:05 p.m. CT.

Baseball America and MLB.com rated Happ as the Cubs' No. 2 prospect entering the season. Through 26 games with Iowa, the 22-year-old hit .298 (31-for-104) with nine home runs - tied for second-most in the Pacific Coast League - and led the Cubs' farm system with 25 RBI. Happ was riding a five-game hit streak for the I-Cubs, going 10-for-20, and had notched two consecutive three-hit games.
Happ was drafted by the Cubs ninth overall in the 2015 draft out of the University of Cincinnati. In 2016, he was recognized as a Carolina League mid-season All-Star, was a two-time Carolina League Player of the Week and was named a Cubs Organization All-Star by MiLB.com.
Iowa faces Salt Lake tonight at 7:35 CT at Smith's Ballpark. Listen on AM 940 or stream the broadcast on www.iowacubs.com
