FRISCO, Texas (Aug. 11, 2026) — Texas League innings pitched leader Ian Koenig tossed seven shutout innings for the second time this season—both times in Frisco—while receiving support from 18 hits as the San Antonio Missions (19-21) pounced on the Frisco RoughRiders (20-20) in a 7-4 win to begin the six-game series in . The 18 hits matched the season-high of 18 the Missions got on May 8 against the Midland RockHounds.
After a scoreless first inning, the Missions’ offense got to work against RoughRiders starter Ben Anderson in the second. On the first pitch he saw in his return to the Missions, Romeo Sanabria smoked a two-run double down the right field line to give the Missions and 2-0 lead. Sanabria then scored on Luis Verdugo’s looper to right that made it 3-0 San Antonio.
San Antonio went on to score in four straight innings beginning in the fourth. Verdugo drove in another with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, Jake Cunningham brought one in with a single in the fifth, Sanabria hit another RBI double in the sixth and Albert Fabian poked on RBI single to left in the seventh. Fabian set a career-high with four hits on the night while Sanabria recorded his 11th career four-hit game.
As the offense poured it on, Koenig cruised. He set down 12 consecutive RoughRiders from the second into the sixth, where he quickly erased his lone walk of the night with a double play. In the seventh, a pair of runners reached, but Kai Roberts—who had entered the game for Cunningham—made a similarly spectacular sliding grab to keep Koenig’s shut out. On May 21, Koenig also threw seven scoreless here in Frisco, and he remains the only Mission to complete seven frames this year, a feat he has now accomplished three times.
The RoughRiders did not go quietly into the night. Clay Edmonson entered for the Missions in the eighth and allowed a solo shot to Corey Joyce before loading the bases. Harry Gustin took over to try and calm things, but an errant throw from Fabian after a dribbler to first brought in two runs. Gustin managed to escape the jam with San Antonio still ahead 7-3.
San Antonio turned to Josh Mallitz in the ninth, but Max Wagner greeted Mallitz with a solo homer on his first pitch. Frisco put another runner on, but Mallitz danced around danger to seal the Missions’ 7-4 series-opening win.
