Infante Promoted to Chicago Monday

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Right-handed pitcher Gregory Infante , who posted a 2.08 ERA in 10 games for the Charlotte Knights this season, had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox today. (UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Right-handed pitcher Gregory Infante , who posted a 2.08 ERA in 10 games for the Charlotte Knights this season, had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox today. Infante takes the place of White Sox infielder/outfielder Cody Asche , who was optioned to Charlotte after last night's game (Report TBD). Charlotte's active roster currently features 24 players. In one other move by the White Sox today, the team transferred catcher Geovany Soto to the team's 60-day disabled list to make room for Infante on the team's 40-man roster.

Infante, 29, becomes the seventh Charlotte Knights player promoted to the White Sox this season. RHP Tommy Kahnle (April 6), catcher Kevan Smith (April 13 & May 10), outfielder WillyGarcia (April 14 & May 2), RHP Mike Pelfrey (April 22), RHP Chris Beck (April 25), and LHP David Holmberg (May 4), are the six others who have all received promotions this year.

Overall this season with the Knights, Infante is 0-1 with three saves and a 2.08 ERA with 16 strikeouts over 13.0 innings pitched. Originally signed by the Chicago White Sox as a free agent on May 5, 2006, Infante last pitched in the majors with Chicago during the 2010 season. He made his major league debut on September 7, 2010 and did not allow a run in five appearances that season (4.2 innings pitched).

A native of Caracas, VZ, Infante returned to the Chicago White Sox organization this season after signing a minor league contract with the team on January, 20, 2017. He spent the 2016 campaign in the Philadelphia Phillies organization and went 4-2 with a 4.84 ERA in 30 games for Double-A Reading and 2-1 with a 5.82 ERA in nine games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The Knights will open a quick three-game homestand at BB&T Ballpark tonight against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) at 7:05 p.m. Tonight is Bark in the Ballpark presented by Dingo.
