Summary
Akron's Shane Bieber tossed seven shutout innings, and Mark Mathias socked a two-out, two-run triple, as the RubberDucks claimed a 5-1 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, New York.

Turning Point
The RubberDucks (3-3) sent eight men to the plate in the sixth inning and scored four runs against Ponies starter Joe Shaw (0-1) to break a scoreless tie. Both run-scoring hits came with two outs. Willi Castro smacked a two-run single for his first two Double-A RBI, and Mark Mathias chipped in a two-run, opposite-field triple to right to give the RubberDucks a 4-0 lead.
Mound Presence
Bieber (1-0) was once again dominant, as he earned his first win of the season. His second start of the season was reminiscent of his Opening Day start last Thursday in Altoona when he also tossed shutout baseball. He worked seven scoreless innings against the Rumble Ponies Tuesday and scattered four hits. He did not issue a walk and fanned eight. His only jam came in the fourth when he allowed back-to-back hits to put runners on the corners with no outs, but he rebounded to strikeout Tomás Nido and induce a double-play grounder from Kevin Taylor to dodge the threat. In his two starts so far in 2018, Bieber has tossed 13 scoreless innings with 17 strikeouts and no walks.
Duck Tales
Andrew Calica had a pair of singles, two runs scored and a stolen base for Akron. Joe Sever added an RBI double in the eighth inning to extend the Ducks lead to 5-0. It was Sever's third RBI. Mathias was 2-3, with a walk. He is now 5-7 in the series.
Notebook
The Rumble Ponies (3-2) scratched out an unearned run in the ninth against Jordan Milbrath after the Ducks committed a pair of errors…Binghamton's Tim Tebow was 0-4…Game time temperature was 39 degrees…Time of game: 2:22…Attendance: 904.
On the Pond
The RubberDucks and Ponies will conclude the series and road trip on Wednesday evening at 6:35. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM, the WARF iHeart channel, and the TuneIn Radio App.
