The I-Cubs trailed before ever recording an out, giving up their first grand slam of the season to go down 4-0 in the first inning.
Iowa responded with a seven run second inning, featuring a solo home run from BJ Murray Jr. and a grand slam by Jonathon Long to propel the Cubs in front 7-4.
Louisville responded with a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to bring it to a one score game at 7-6 after seven innings.
Iowa responded by tallying five runs in the eighth inning, all coming with two outs. A bases loaded walk by Jonathon Long led to Pedro Ramirez and Kevin Alcantara hitting a pair of two-RBI doubles to push the Cubs lead out to 12-6.
The Bats responded with one run in the bottom of the ninth to finish the scoring before Iowa recorded the final out to preserve the victory.
Iowa will play at Louisville on Thursday for the third of a six-game series with first pitch slated for 5:35 p.m. CT.
