DES MOINES - Williams Pérez notched a quality start to lift the Iowa Cubs (11-12) over the first-place Colorado Spring Sky Sox (13-7) 3-2, on a gloomy Monday afternoon at Principal Park.

Jeimer Candelario put the Iowa Cubs out in front with a fourth-inning homer to right-center while Perez pitched a quick five scoreless frames. The Sky Sox got to the starter in the sixth with a pair of runs to inch ahead. In his best outing of the season, Perez allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out five .
Iowa retook the lead in the seventh after a wild pitch followed by two throwing errors on the same play scored Victor Caratini from first. Two more hits and another Sky Sox error plated one more to give Iowa the 3-2 edge.
The I-Cubs' bullpen put up zeros to close out the ballgame. David Rollins (1-1) chipped in a scoreless inning in relief to drop his ERA to 0.90. Pierce Johnson took the eighth and walked three to load the bags, but got out of the inning unscathed with a backwards K. Taking over in the ninth, Félix Peña held off the Sky Sox to collect his fourth save of the season.
