STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Taking on the Staten Island Yankees at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George, the Aberdeen IronBirds came up short on Sunday afternoon, falling to 3-1, despite outhitting their opponents.
EARLY ERRORS: Much like Saturday night, the Yankees jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the contest, scoring a pair of runs in the second. After a wild pitch allowed the first run to score, a throwing error at shortstop allowed Staten Island to double their lead.
The Yankees would add another in the fourth on back-to-back doubles with two outs to take a 3-0 lead.
ONE IS NOT ENOUGH: With two outs in the sixth,
Aberdeen mustered up just one hit in the final three frames and dropped their second game in a row.
'BIRD WATCHING: With the run in the fourth off Nick Gruener, the Yankees snapped a 20-inning streak for IronBirds' starting pitching without allowing an earned run ... Aberdeen had runners on base in six of the first seven innings, but failed to score until the sixth ... The IronBirds outhit the Yankees 6-5 on Sunday and lost their second game of the year when outhitting the opponent.
UP NEXT: Aberdeen concluded the series with Staten Island at 7 p.m. on Monday.
