IronBirds Drop Series Opener in Vermont

BURLINGTON. VT.- In the first of three in Vermont, the Aberdeen IronBirds fell, 5-2 to the Lake Monsters on Friday night. Aberdeen outhit the Lake Monsters 8-7, but only struck for a pair of runs.
GOOD START: Aberdeen struck first on Friday night in the fourth inning, scoring two runs to take a 2-0 lead. After singles from Kirvin Moesquit and Ben Breazeale to put runners at the corners, Trevor Craport flew a ball to right field for a sacrifice fly to give the IronBirds a 1-0 lead. With two outs, T.J. Nichting hit a double down the right field line to increase the IronBirds advantage to two.
TIMELY HITTING: In the bottom of the fourth, with runners at the corners and two outs, Vermont's Aaron Arruda picked up the Lake Monsters first hit, a two run double to left field that tied the game.
Vermont would add another two run double from the bat of Ryan Gridley in the sixth and tack on an RBI groundout in the seventh to walk away with a 5-3 win.
'BIRD WATCHING: Aberdeen's loss is their ninth when outhitting an opponent … They have won five games when being outhit.
UP NEXT: IronBirds look to even the series on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Brenan Hanifee will take the mound for Aberdeen.
