Jacksonville falls in extras despite early lead

MOOSIC, Pa. – Despite taking an early lead, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 6-5 in 10 innings Saturday night at PNC Field.

With the game tied at five in the bottom of the 10th inning, Yanquiel Fernandez began the inning at second as the zombie runner. Fernandez advanced to third on a groundout and scored two batters later on a wild pitch, sealing the RailRiders’ 6-5 win.

After a scoreless first inning, Jacksonville (73-74, 31-42) opened the scoring in the top of the second. Logan Driscoll started the inning with a base hit and Gage Miller walked. A sacrifice bunt coupled with a walk loaded the bases and Brandon Compton (3) walloped a grand slam putting the Jumbo Shrimp in front, 4-0.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (78-68, 41-31) began their climb back into the game in the bottom of the fourth. After two quick outs, Tyler Hardman (15) crushed a solo homer cutting the deficit to 4-1.

The RailRiders drew closer in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Jasson Dominguez was hit by a pitch and J.C. Escarra (11) followed with a two-run blast, making it a one-run game.

The Jumbo Shrimp pulled away in the top of the seventh. Matthew Etzel doubled and stole third. Two batters later, he scored on a sacrifice fly by Braden Taylor increasing the lead to 5-3.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre evened the game in the home eighth. Fernandez walked and went to third on consecutive singles from Hardman and Duke Ellis, loading the bases. Kenedy Corona drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Connor McGinnis brought in the tying run with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, Fernandez began the inning at second as the zombie runner. Fernandez advanced to third on a groundout and scored two batters later on a wild pitch, sealing the RailRiders’ 6-5 win.

Jacksonville and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre conclude the 2026 regular season with Sunday’s 1:35 p.m. contest. LHP Luis Palacios (3-2, 2.89 ERA) gets the ball for the Jumbo Shrimp and the RailRiders will counter with RHP Elmer Rodriguez (8-4, 2.45 ERA) ERA).
