Jamie Westbrook Named Player of the Week

Hot stretch gives Generals second of first three weekly honors

Jackson, Tenn. - The Southern League announced on Monday that Jamie Westbrook had been named the circuit's Player of the Week for the period from April 24 to the 30th. Westbrook had hits in six of seven games, going 13-for-27 at the plate as Jackson went 5-2 as a team.
The Chandler, Arizona native entered the week hitting .120, but bumped that up to .247 in just seven games. He hit .481 (13-for-27) with six doubles, a triple and nine runs batted in. He busted out of a slump in a big way April 24 in Biloxi, going 4-for-5 with three doubles and a triple. His four extra-base knocks were one shy of tying a Southern League record. 

The next night, Westbrook went hitless for the only time all week. Wednesday, he started what is currently a six-game hitting streak with a pair of hits and an RBI. He had two or more knocks in four of the seven games he played in. The second baseman and outfielder got off to a hot start this week, hitting his first home run in Monday's loss to Chattanooga.
Colin Walsh won the first Player of the Week Award in the Southern League, so the Generals have taken two of the first three honors given out in 2017. This is the second Southern League Player of the Week Award that Westbrook has won. Westbrook was honored last May while playing with Mobile.
The Generals return home to West Tennessee Monday to kick off a ten-game homestand. The first five are against the Tennessee Smokies before the team welcomes the Pensacola Blue Wahoos to town. The team will host a Sarge-themed weekend starting Thursday, May 11 with his birthday celebration! It's also Thrifty Thursday, featuring $2 deals on general admission tickets, hot dogs, popcorn, 24-oz. Pepsi products, 16-oz. beer, ice cream and fun zone wristbands!
On Friday, May 12 versus the Smokies and Saturday, May 13 versus Pensacola, the Generals will host Sarge's Carnival with Postgame Fireworks both nights! At both games, we'll have carnival rides in the Fun Zone for the kids to enjoy! Friday's Fireworks are presented by Tennessee Health Management, while MobileNation is sponsoring Saturday's Show! Friday is also a Leaders Credit Union Food Truck Friday, with the Generals playing as the Hub City Hippos! On Saturday, the first 1,000 fans through the gate will get baseballs autographed by current Generals!
