SOUTH BEND, IN - The Chicago Cubs announced on Wednesday evening that World Series Champion Jason Heyward has been assigned to the South Bend Cubs for a rehabilitation assignment. He is expected to start with South Bend tonight.

"We are thrilled that South Bend will now have two major league rehab assignments in back to back years," said Andrew T. Berlin, Owner of the South Bend Cubs. "The Chicago Cubs know our commitment to player development with first-class facilities like the renovated clubhouse and locker rooms, the 1st Source Bank Performance Center, and the award winning natural grass playing surface installed by "The Sodfather" himself, Roger Bossard from the Chicago White Sox. The road back to the World Series starts in South Bend!"
Before going on the disabled list on May 7 with a sprained finger on his right hand, Heyward was batting .253 with three home runs and 17 RBIs in 28 games. He was originally drafted in the 1st round (14th overall) by the Atlanta Braves in the 2007 Draft and made his Major League debut for the Braves on April 5, 2010. Heyward is scheduled to play at least one game in South Bend.
"Thursday was already going to be an exciting day with former Chicago Cubs All-Star Bill Buckner in town," said South Bend Cubs Team President Joe Hart. "Now with Jason Heyward beginning his rehab assignment, we anticipate the atmosphere to be even more electric."
On July 8, 2016, South Bend received their first rehab assignment from the Chicago Cubs as Dexter Fowler batted 9th and was the Designated Hitter for that game. Fowler went 0-2 with two walks.
Tickets for Thursday's game are available at the South Bend Cubs Box Office and by phone at (574) 235-9988 beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tickets can also be purchasedby clicking here.
